Narrative of the Young Shepherd

At the center of the captivating rolling hills, resided a boy named Shepherd. His existence was pure, simple yet virtuous. His main role was essentially to care for his flock of sheep.

Their low murmuring and the rustling of the gales among the lone tree on the hilltop were his only associates. Day upon day, looking out for his wards inculcated in him a feeling of quiet fulfillment.

But, there were occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would pine for company. During one such occasion from sheer monotony, the shepherd boy orchestrated a naughty plan.

Stories of wild beasts check here hunting on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.

One day he ran into the village screaming “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The frightened villagers ran up the hills to offer assistance but saw no beast.

The boy giggled at the dilemma on their faces. This game persisted for a couple of more days. However, one day, a real wolf actually charge at the flock. The shepherd boy ran for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could protect only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the town only to receive a scolding on honesty and the results of crying wolf.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it stresses how trust once violated, is tough to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
